a couple of things:
i am alarmed at the cynicism, DEEP cynicism, of some of my students. when you reflect on what they’ve seen, (if they’re 19 most of their really aware of the outside world and this country etc has been during the Bush daze) it makes sense but it bums me out a bit. i’m trying to listen to them but also have told them (and myself) that cynicism is really easy, don’t have to do NUTTIN>..
second. i wish i could buy you a tv that only gets rachel maddow. so you and your kin wouldn’t be sullied by cable BUT you would be able to REVEL in her HER HERRRRR!

L'chaim! And here's a nice bit on the band thing by Patricia Nell Warren at Bilerico. Though she was fortunate enough to have been watching CNN. I, tragically, was tethered to network TV, which -- surprise! -- cut to a commercial right when the band was about to come into camera view. My Tragic Twitter Trail: 1. [at 3:23 PST] Howard U, followed by a rainbow flag. No! don't go to a commercial, ABC! I don't have cable! 2. [at 3:25 PST] Holy crap. ABC cuts out after a two second shot of Gay Lesbian band sign. What next? Frogs coming out of the sky? The coincidences appall. 3. [at 3:27 PST] Okay this is not funny. I finally find a web-based stream, and all I see is a flotilla of pastel-colored Hershey's kisses. Apparently the pastel-colored Hershey's kisses were in actuality the Mobile Azalea Trail Maids. Azaleas. Totally could have fooled me.

Through the haze of my nearly constant cynicism, I still see possibility and, after all that we have witnessed and experienced, I still hope. I can’t help it.

So, let’s raise a glass to what might be! Only time will tell if our toasts will be celebratory or self-medicating. ha ha.
