This gives me hope for the future! My parents aren't ready to express support yet --they aren't bad people; just scared I might get hurt--, but my dad always tells me he's proud of me. And always will be. Which is all I could ever ask for.

I should get him one of those t-shirts someday.

Oh geez, now he's my hero even more. See, thats the thing. You know and I know and HE knows that a parent's love should be unconditional. (A big fat "duh" from us all around. :) )However, YOU know, and I know, and I would bet even he knows that, at times, parents do demand conditions for love with their kids all the time. So, even if he "pshaws" any cool dad props, I am ordering up his cape anyway. A cape ANY parent who simply but unconditionally loves their child should wear proudly.

Thank you both. And Caroline, I am proud to report that my dad's in that camp of people who pooh-pooh such compliments, since he would fiercely contend that he is acting simply the way all fathers, the way all parents, should act. In loving support of his child, unconditionally. You know how there are two kinds of people? Those who do right but expect praise, and those who do right, and are either embarrassed by it or shun it? Yeah.

I do give him great credit for growing, and being open to change. Twenty, twenty-five years ago he would have contended (probably not very fiercely) that I was in a "stage" (vis-a-vis hooking up with gals). Off the record he might have even admitted back then that, given how wonderful, maybe even how superior in so many ways that men are, it was surprising to him that one of his daughters would choose to hook up with women instead.

He's come a long way, baby. Which of course gives me hope.

It would absolutely make sense if that "superman" stance of his was on purpose. Your father is my hero.

Hooray for your Pops! (and not for the first time)

His ability to maintain his spirit through all life has handed him, and allow himself to grow more and more loving, is an inspiration.
