Hi, was at BlogHer. Saw both your panel and your community keynote and thought you were inspiring. Am also a friend of Kristin (she of Underrated Mondays — I was the inaugural UM candidate.)

I don’t know of many lesbian parenting blogs (Peter’s Cross Station and Diane Flack’s blog at purdy-flacks.com to name the only two I check out.) but I am always glad to get the perspective.

I recently read a NYT piece on shared or equal parenting that said straight parent couples should learn from lesbian parent couples who don’t have to deal with the same issues of division of labour etc. (Not that this relates to your post, but something I thought worth mentioning.) I am glad people like you are putting your stories out there for the rest of us to learn from.

Look forward to reading more on LD. Oh, also, I am Armenian and we say Baba for dad too! Babeeg if we’re being cute. Everything cute in Armenian (and some other Middle Eastern languages) ends in “eeg.”

Sister SJnky, 1) Yegods! I am such a crummy host! Old LD crowd, meet the many fine ladies I met at BlogHer! Many fine ladies I met at BlogHer, meet the exceedingly personable old LD crowd! About three hundred of whom registered to chit-chat as of this spring, and have been milling about these parts for upwards of two and a half years now (duly thanked here. And 2), I'm going to bet the family was from The Subcontinent, or maybe somewheres about the vast Middle East. But I'm going to stick with India. That's my final answer. Proper thanks and response to the above comments after I've dispatched my nightly parental duties.

1) Hey, who are all these new people?

2) I was in the Atlanta airport today and a couple of kids streaked past me yelling “Baba! Baba!” – well, needless to say, I took off running after them to see who the target Baba was They were clearly referencing their father, and I’m very curious to know thier nationality but they looked perhaps hispanic? I’m sure I’m way off the mark. Anyway, I thought of you!

Well, jeebus. Welcome to life. No matter where you go, or what you’re doing, that level of “crushing sameness” exists. Some of us prefer to call it commonality.

And I found you before BlogHer, related to gay marriage in California, so I don’t know what that makes me. Early adopter? ;-}

Love your observations…one of the best recaps/overviews I’ve read. I so enjoyed meeting you. (I’m the one you “helped” in the hallway after the keynote with Heather and Stephanie…you can just call me “homey”.)

You have touched on so very many important points here and I hate to dwindle it down to what hit me most but it’s this: we’re real people sharing stories. Simple!

I’m glad I sidled up to talk to you with our children in tow. Even though there’s a great deal of difference in their ages, we could have as easily met on the playground and hit it off.
