Thank you so much for highlighting these resources. I am currently participating in an "inclusivity initiative" at our Seven's school and, given that it is Catholic in its mission, these resources will be invaluable for us. Fortunately, the school has also set a priority on social justice, so, despite Rome's stance, we have an opening.

One other great resource, which offers an extended look at some of the themes Teper discusses, is Abigail Garner's book Families Like Mine: Children of Gay Parents Tell It Like It Is. Vital reading for all LGBT parents, IMHO, from the perspective of grown children of LGBT families.

Personally I think that the homophobia that kids face in school is just part of the oppressive and violent atmosphere of nearly all school regimes. The fundamental lack of respect for children (and adults come to that) inherent in the ethos of most schooling means you'll never get a true respect for diversity. The whole message is based on the ranking and ordering of human beings - and children pick that one up from virtually day one. We gave up on the system and decided to home educate and it's been a great choice for us. But I know it's not for everyone and wish you luck in your dealings with schools.
