VT: done! And: fun!

Bluemilk: hello on back! And yes, I peeped your blog, and have appreciated reading it. Honored by the link. On the privacy issues: when I initially decided I'd include photographs of the kid (later to be kiddles), it was other parents' doing so that led me to think it'd be okay. That is, our kids wouldn't be all alone on the internet, etc.

I'm still sharing photgraphic images of the kids here, because it feels like a significant means of conveying our overall lesbian family story. I've decided, for the moment, that at least on this blog the imagery is in its proper context. What brought me up short was that I realized, via that one picture getting "favorited" by folks on Flickr who also "favorited" pr0n or er0tic imagery (for the hetero male gaze, I should note, though I imagine that was presumed), that images of my kids could conceivably be viewed side-by-side against ones that tell a very different story.

Ultimately, I certainly get it that anything on the internet is viewable and construable by anyone for any purpose. Its power and its bane, eh?

And thank you for the kind words on the happier note. I've been loving your blog and the insights it's giving me about Australian feminism. Y'all sisters rock down there.

Justpowers: Yay! I love that Doodaddy guy! One day, if we can manage it, we're trying to hook up a hookup. Easier said than done, even though we're just a bridge and a bay apart. I'll go and friendify you on Flickr quick before the lil' peanut wakes up. (Oops! or soon thereafter.)

I found your site recently through Doodaddy and have also have loved your photos and the accompanying posts. I started blogging and posting on flickr before I had my daughter and have only recently started thinking about her/our privacy. Thanks for your thoughts on the issue. Oh, and I would love to be a friend on flickr if you still have room.

This is the post that has finally compelled me to stop lurking and to say hello. I've really admired your blog, I recommend it on my own and I think your writing is wonderful - so polished, so intelligent. I hope you're ok with me linking to some of your posts, I assume you noticed it in your stats and would have said something if you weren't comfortable with it.

I felt pretty horrified to read about your irksome find in this post, for you and also for me. I've contemplated exactly the dilemnas you've discussed in this post. My daughter's rights to privacy vs my rights to enjoy her publicly, our safety vs our freedom of movement, relationship privacy implications with regards to my thoughts about motherhood vs. sharing thoughts with other parents and debunking myths. To be honest, while I've taken some measures to address these issues I also take a lot of heart from seeing other parents risking it and putting it out there in blogs along side me, I keep figuring if they think its ok then it probably is ok. Lately a few of you are pulling back and I'm feeling the need to question myself all over again.

On a happier note - fabulous, fabulous blog you've got your good self.

Voilá (or, as the goddaughter of another reader gal, Lauren, says, "wah-la" -- how can you not love that)! You are now befriended.

Thank you for the kind words. And ah well. It ain't like there ain't eeby pervs hither and yon, and lord love me we may have even strolled our stroller past one or two already in the past two and a half years. Odds are we have. I just didn't like facilitating their even mindlessly juxtaposing images of my kiddle with images of -- well. Not kittens.

I miss your photos!!! Can I be friended? (I think my flickr is claredavina). Also, just wanted to say how much I admire your writing (not to mention the ideas expounded upon). Sorry to hear about the bad apple.

That'll do it!

And if'n anyone else would want to drop effortlessly into the LD part of the Flickr rabbit hole, you could write me a note via the contact form on this site, including some kind, sane words that assure me you're not a wack job. And I use those words advisedly.

By the way, Vikki, you already gave the offering about thirteen years ago at the Lesbian Avengers kissing booth at the Dyke Ball. D'oh! Remember when we were all doing quality control? Whilst I was staffing it? I can't remember who went first, you or Eleanor or Michael Shelley, but the three of youse are the last gals I smooched before focussing all remaining lip action upon my beloved. She sauntered up to the booth after you gals, and the rest, as they say, is herstory.

Thank you FemKnit, for both the support and the compliments. The chap who made me into Andrea Dworkin on crack didn't comment, so he's no longer traceable off the picture. His other favorites were a lot creepier than the comparatively less disturbing "art n_de" afficionado who did comment (and thus is still traceable).

Alas. It's a free country, I know. There's just whole time zones in it I don't ever want to visit.

Oh, I see who made you uncomfortable. A little creepy indeed.
Thanks for adding me to the Friends and Family group. Your wee ones are just too adorable and your photography skills are inspiring. I would've missed both.
That said, I occassionally create a montage of my favorites. I'm not even sure that Flickr will allow photos with privacy restrictions to be included in the montages, but I'll keep an eye on it to make sure the kidlets don't appear.
