Every time I read your adventures I think "wow, this is what you can do without a nap!" So yes, I think there is an upside. If nothing else, you don't have to structure your day around wondering and worrying whether the nap will occur or not. You don't have to basically block off 4 hours in order to possibly achieve a 1.5 to 2 hour nap. And you don't have to tear your hair out when you planned 5 work phone calls plus dishes plus showering plus your own nap and you don't get to do any of it.

But yes, but yes, there is also a downside in the form of NO BREAK.

It'll be interesting to see how long before you feel the need to stay at home to protect the lil Peanut's nap.

It's been true since time began:

Those girls with the magenta hair will get you every time...

We are in the midst of potty training our youngest and I am probably going to ruin everything by saying this but I think we are through the worst. Accidents are pretty rare at this point but can still happen so I have to carry the extra clothes and a plastic bag wherever I go. I can't wait until I don't have to carry anything but my wallet and a snack.

Oh, dear, how soon one forgets! I'd forgotten all about peeing through the diapers. Take comfort, though, soon you will enjoy the excitement of "I need to go to the bathroom" with no bathroom in sight. You just might long for the diapered days.
I'm sorry for coming across like an old grouch the other day. I certainly never took any advice from anybody on how to raise MY kids. But I meant well.

Here we come, walkin' down the street.
We get the funniest looks from everyone we meet.
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees and people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy singing to put anybody down.

We go wherever we want to, do what we like to do.
We don't have time to get restless, there's always something new.
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees and people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy singing to put anybody down.

We're just tryin' to be friendly, come and watch us sing and play.
We're the young generation, and we've got something to say.

I remember it well, my friend. Zeca is still napping though we may encourage her to drop it soon because she seems to want to while away the evening hours chatting on those days when she has had a good nap. There is no doubt that parents need the naps more than the children.

I feel similarly unprepared-for-all-possible-(potty)events when we're out-and-about (pron: oot-and-aboot in these parts). Recently, at a neighbor-kid's birthday party at the park, I found myself with Big, without a swim diaper and without a t-shirt though near a wading pool and in a sunny 95 degree day. That was all fine and dandy until he went No. 2. Everywhere. Okay so no wipes, but yes, oh yes, a spare diaper.

So now, he's running around under the heat of the sun in diaper No. 2, wanting ever-so-badly to slide down the scorching steel slide that has been baking for hours.

I need back-up bags for my back-up bags when we're out.

Oh ho ho, oh ho ho ho ho. Oh naptime. So! Guess how old our monkey was when she gave the daytime respite a heave-ho! No, guess! Wrong! Earlier than that! Wrong! Even earlier! SHE STOPPED NAPPING BEFORE SHE TURNED TWO AND SHE HAS NEVER TURNED BACK.

Oh, we tried, lord knows we tried. Many, many things. I mean, we've had swimming success with the evening going to bed routine. But nope. Everything devolved to her rattling the rails of the crib like an inmate at Attica, and it finally became untenable to burn up gallons upon gallons of fossil fuels to try to get her to drift off to sleep in the car. Stroller no go.

The other day we were out and I overheard someone saying something to the effect of, "Well, we gotta go home now, it's time for your nap!" And I nearly cried.

Upside: fun fun fun all day long!

I'm tired just reading about all of your adventures. Do you at least get some respite at naptime? Does the lil' monkey still nap? Nap time is so glorious and remember mourning the loss of it when Miguel gave it up shortly after turning 2. Those were some dark days...
