Big babyrama
Make your own wall o’ pix using this nifty interface here.

These were taken nearly a week ago in a veritable orgy of redundant portraiture. It was the first time his eyes were open a significant number of minutes on end, and before midnight, a time when I am (a) capable of focussing on objects as small as his eyes, and (b) capable of being happy they’re open, period.

How many images can a baby-drunk parent actually take in a — here, let me check — yep, in a twenty minute span, one might ask? You guess!

I will entertain guesses from both you regular readers up until, oh, let’s say 11:59 SATURDAY NIGHT (Feb 3). Whichever of your guesses comes the closest to the number of pictures I managed to take in that twenty minute portrait orgy wins a prize! I will purchase and have sent to you your very own “One of my moms is blogging this” t-shirt (or bib, or whatever) from Mombian.

If you’re the lucky winner but aren’t a lesbian mom blogger, well, I suggest you meet one, and give her this t-shirt as a delightful and unexpected gift. If you really can’t find a way to meet a lesbian parent anywhere (and we really are everywhere; the most recent census established that we’re in 99.3% of American counties), I might consider swapping your lesbo mom blogging product for a copy of this critically acclaimed, edifying book by and about lesbo mums such as myself.

Meanwhile, I have to note that those images above are sooo one week ago. He’s way grown up now that he’s, like, two weeks old. As evidenced below, receiving the umpteen gazillionth kiss of the day from his big sis:

Umpteen gazillionth kiss of the day

Ooh ooh! I’ve been lurking so far, too lazy to register for WordPress, but I need to gamble on the “one of my moms is blogging this” t-shirt. I’ll guess 140.

  2. 2 j

I’m going to say….(I know, it seems insane) but I’m going to go with 226 as my photo number. You take beautiful shots, and so I’m assuming your camera has a continuous shot setting. I am going out on a limb and hoping you used it, or else my guess is going to be…foolish.

  3. 3 Liza

    Ooo! Ooo!

    I’m going to guess…47.

  4. 4 flossie

What a cutie. I will guess 120 pictures, one every ten seconds (if my math is right, which it often isn’t). I’m not a lesbian mom blogger, but I could put the t-shirt on my cats…just kidding, I don’t think they’d go for that, but I’m enjoying the thought of it nonetheless.

  5. 5 tracerhawk

Been lurking for a while but totally understand how the camera can get out of control when one is baby drunk. I guess 37 photos in 20 minutes!

  6. 6 Vikki

You outdid yourself Polly. What a great series! The many faces of baby…

As for the guess…I’m going to go with 67. That’s very close to the number of pictures we had to take to get a single decent picture for our holiday card.

  7. 7 LesbianDad

Oooo geez this is fun! Dang! So nice to meet youse, too, Irreverend and flossie and tracerhawk. I will bite my lip and not succomb to any hintery.

  8. 8 Trista

Oooh, I want one of those shirts…

    I’m going to guess…

this is hard as I really like to win, but I really have no idea…

    I’m going to guess…

    96

I am loving that little dimple in his chin.

  9. 9 BOSSY

How about 111? Seems like a perfectly delicious Price is Right kind of number. By the way, lucky thing your kid isn’t photogenic or anything. I mean, gah, is that one interesting subject or wha?

  10. 10 the KIABIL

Oooo oooo! I knew this one! But then I forgot! Doh! Ooo wait, I know this one… hey, is that one cute kid or what? And so versatile. WC Fields in the middle, Churchill just to the right of WC Fields, Bella Abzug below Churchill… a bit of Nikita Kruschev, some Oliver Hardy, and I can’t wait to see his repertoire when he adds himself a chin.

  11. 11 FemiKnitMafia

Delurking to guess 70 pix in 20 minutes.

I’ve been eyeing that T-shirt for too long.

  12. 12 annz

    Great shots!

I know your camera, and I know you! I’m guessing 350 photos in 20 minutes!

  13. 13 Momai

    I’m guessing 117. Great pics!

  14. 14 Blue Ox

    87. Definitely.

    Cute little bugger.

  15. 15 G_of_fairyfamily

Congrats on the little one… He is ADORABLE just like his big sister. I’m guessing you took 58.

  16. 16 Pingu

my guess is 137… but I am not expecting you to send the t-shirt to Germany, of course (even though it does sound cool). Just wanted to take this chance to tell you that I really enjoy reading your blog and that I can’t await all the new postings. Hello from Berlin to all of you sends Inga

  17. 17 marypierce13

I am going to guess 150. No reason, I just like that number.

  18. 18 LesbianDad

    Gee whiz this is fun!

  19. 19 Kelly

I’m going to guess….400? How could you not take that many pictures of such a beautiful baby?

  20. 20 Annemarie4

I will delurk and guess 67. :) Beautiful baby boy!

  21. 21 virgotex

it likely goes without saying we’re talking 2G SD card here, right? And with a continuous shot setting…..wild ass guessing on the resolution settings….

    242?

  22. 22 jewelgeek

    What great photos!

I love that you call him your little peanut. My brother-in-law and his wife called their first child that (before he was born). We went to Disneyland that year and got him a pair of baby Mickey ears with Peanut on it!

LD's No on California Prop 8 fundraising

    Goal Thermometer no-on-8-cutie

The time to step up is now.

See that cute kid there on the right? My son. The day, this July, that my partner and I got hitched. It was our fourteenth anniversary. Help.

    300x75baumperf

    Featured election news/analysis:

From "Gay marriages in California surpass those in Massachusetts,", Jessica Garrison, on 7 Oct., 2008, at the Los Angeles Times.

Data released Monday (6 Oct 08) by UCLA's Williams Institute found that an estimated 11, 000 same-sex couples were married in CA since June 17, when the court began to allow them. (Since May 2004, over 10,000 have married in Massachusetts.)

Pastor Jim Garlow of Skyline Church in La Mesa, who has been rallying voters to pass the constitutional amendment, said: "The fact that there are big numbers doesn't change the reality that it is still bad for the country."

Garlow, who along with hundreds of other Christians, is observing a fast until election day as a way to show his support for the proposed amendment, added: "There are enormous numbers of people doing cocaine right now. . . . Simply because large numbers of people are doing something does not make it right."
"Foes of gay-marriage ban say poll shows Prop. 8 leading," by Jessica Garrison, 8 Oct., 2008, in the Los Angeles Times:
The opposition has enjoyed a healthy lead in several surveys taken by polling organizations that do not have a stake in the campaign. But officials with the No on 8 campaign held a conference call with reporters Tuesday to announce that their own poll showed the measure would pass by four points. Opponents attributed the result to fewer television ads, which is, in turn, a result of the No on 8 campaign falling behind in fundraising.
From Geoff Kors, Equality California, in an email to EQCA and No on 8 supporters, 7 Oct., 2008:
Our worst nightmares are coming true.

Today we learned of the massive $25.4 million our opponents have raised so far. They are using this war chest to broadcast lies: 24/7 and up and down the state of California.

And the polls show the lies are working. We need your donation now.

Yesterday’s CBS 51 poll shows that:

“…likely California voters overall now favor passage of Proposition 8 by a five-point margin, 47 percent to 42 percent. Ironically, a CBS 5 poll eleven days prior found a five-point margin in favor of the measure's opponents.”

People change their minds about Proposition 8 when they hear the lie that churches will lose their tax-free status if they won’t marry same-sex couples – EVEN THOUGH THIS IS NOT TRUE!

So this is crunch time. With less than a month before the election, we must get on the air now to answer these lies and swing votes back to our side.

And the ONLY way to do that it to raise more money. The generous $15.8 million that our supporters have given isn’t enough. Not when the other side has nearly $10 million more than we do and the fundraising gap is growing.
