Anxiously awaiting the big news. Then, anxiously awaiting all the advice on life with #2.

I will keep checking LD.net as I don't think I'm on the laminated card in your wallet.

Julian was 13 days post-due, btw.

During the birth of our first, there was me (the one doing the actual birthing), Luisa (my partner), my sister, 4 of our closest friends, our midwife and the nurse who assisted. We needed stadium seating but it was fabulous! Our second baby arrived so quickly that we barely made it to the hospital (literally, she was crowning when I walked into the hospital). So, our birth team basically arrived as the baby was born and put on my chest. It's amazing to be surrounded by so much love. I know...sounds cheesy but it is true.

Good luck!

Thank you, Katie. Extended family is an enormously important thing to us. I rather think that most LGBT families begin more extended than nuclear, since to build our families we have no choice but to reach outside our immediate relationships (via adoption, or alternative insemination, or what have you). I believe the quiet truth about LGBT families -- and any family built this way, from the outside in -- is that it actually takes effort to keep them isolated and nuclear. Which seems to me to be nothin' but a good thing.

Now as soon as I figure out how to do that meemish thing on your site, I will. Unless of course Junior comes a-knockin'!

what an awesome and inspiring experience because it so clearly exceeds birth, making it even sweeter and more special.

today, it's very rare to have so much extended family in a kid's life. the notion itself has become a burden to many people, which is sad.

the greatest thing about growing up for me was how much extended family I had in my daily life and the role that my parents closest friends (god parents) played in our lives.

that is special and it's wonderful that you can give that to your kids.

mazel tov to the dream team!
