My heart goes out to all of you. I hope that your baby might melt your partner's dad's heart. Maybe? Or parts of it? And who knows. Grandfather proxies may appear in the least expected places. For every one in our generation who has been cut off, there is probably at least one in an earlier generation who was too, and who may find something immensely healing in being a loving male elder in your child's life. Mebbe you can haunt the lobby of touring Broadway shows or something! That's where this Grampy would be found. Stealing someone else's lovely dad seems like a dandy idea.

Love this post! It makes me sad that our kid won't have any groovy grand-dads when I read this. My partners dad is very uptight and doesn't actually seem to be looking forward to this baby whatsoever and my dad has nothing to do with me at all. I shall have to steal someone elses dad who's lovely to take on the role instead.
