The epoxy resin metaphor is beautiful. I tend to agree with almost all you write, but to this post I agree the mostest. Long live "forging connections across a point of contrast," and long live the notion that contrast does not necessarily imply conflict.

Many, many thanks! Though yegods, woman! 33 straight entries, and you're pregnant to boot! Yow! Mazel tov on the pregnancy! I had been reading on your blog, and knowing that it was a journey. Only 191 days to go, says your Lilypie-o-meter! Carry on!

Oh my goodness - I am so tired after catching up on no fewer than 33 of your posts in one sitting! You alays write such interesting content and give lovely insight into your family. I've been very tired with pregnancy and slacking off on my blog reading, but have saved yours for a time when I felt up to reading every word. Good job Lesbian Dad! Love your work!

Thank you for that insight, Trista. Hard not to corroborate with one of Sister Audre Lorde's most oft-cited pearls of wisdom: "It is not our difference that divides us. It is our inability to recognize, accept and celebrate those differences." [For the two or three readers not already familiar with her and her work, there's Wikipedia, or this fine tribute page here.]

YES! Because connection based only on commonalities can so easily crack once differences are exposed... I think it's important to acknowledge that we CHOOSE to form bonds and that this choice is based on an acceptance of our differences, because it is through difference that our view and scope is expanded.
